Who We Are

Our Mission

Central Virginia Legal Aid Society is a community of lawyers whose mission is to provide free legal services to low-income individuals in civil cases and to help the low income and elderly community through preventive community legal education.

CVLAS is a non-profit section 501(c)(3) organization.

Our Priorities

Central Virginia Legal Aid Society’s goals and priorities drive where we focus our resources to do the most good. These priorities determine the types of cases we believe are most important to our clients and our community.

Improving Outcomes for Children

This includes defending victims of domestic violence and making sure children are safely sheltered.

Preservation of Housing and Housing Needs

This often involves defending clients facing eviction and foreclosure, or who need access to safe, affordable housing.

Protecting Economic Stability

Cases in this area involve employment, public benefits, and consumer issues.

Promoting Safety, Stability and Well-being

This can mean defending victims of sexual violence and helping clients obtain affordable health benefits.

We Prioritize Emergency Cases and the use of Technology

to improve our ability to bring legal services to all – especially those in underserved areas. For example, remote court hearings may be available to those who are unable to appear in court in person.
